The idea of this project is to see things in a different perspective by taking an ordinary object and complete a number of stages in order to make it completely abstract. Seeing things in a different way and finding other ways of communicating something in a unique way, to differentiate from the competition, is an important lesson for a designer.
I went through 10 stages in the abstraction process. I went out in the city and walked around to find and photograph an object that caught my interest. I sketched the object as close to the original as possible and zoomed in on a certain area that was interesting by marking it inside of a rectangle. Then I sketched that area, and repeated that process several times. A couple of rounds later I made a physical object of the sketch, using paper to fold it like the lines in the last sketch. I started playing with light and realised the shadows it was casting made an interesting look, so I filmed the paper model moving the light around and edited the video to be blurry to see the shadow shapes better.
With this video as inspiration I wanted to create something that would represent it in a physical world. Looking for a material that would be as smooth as the shapes in the video, I found that shaping a clear acrylic sheet like the video's flowing shapes using a heat-gun was the way to go. I then spray painted the back of it to make it correlate with the video aesthetics.
